Animals need us more than ever!
Our vision, as responsible human beings, is to protect the one's in need. But what if someone in need is different than us? What if he's hairy, has big ears and paws, and smells funny? Does this mean that his rights are also different than us? Does this mean that his/her life worths less?
NO, is the answer. As I trailed a path in Koziakas mountain in Pindos, Greece, last week I experienced something heart-meandering yet something that will play a deterministic role in my future actions. As I trekked, I discerned a wounded animal in the ground. I provided him food and minerals, but my equipment was insufficient to facilitate his full survival. The next day, I walked the same trail, fully equipped. I returned the animal to the base camp I was an intern in. We kept the animal there for the rest of the camp session. I took the animal back in Athens. I immediately thrashed to the local vet. After the animal got vaccinated, I left it to the animal shelter of Psychiko (known as Ζω.Φι.Ψυ).
I gave the animal the name "Hope". Hope, because I'm hoping for a change in humans' mentality. I hope that our generation is mature enough to recognize animal right. I hope that the future of animals will change. Wholeheartedly, I believe that together we can show to our hairy friends that we care.
